Employment Opportunities

Snowzilla is the winter business of Gardenzilla Lawn & Garden, offering year-round work to career-minded gardeners and landscapers. We offer two types of employment - payroll and subcontractor. Both enjoy similar compensation, but payroll staff are employed year-round by the company, while subcontractors assume responsibility for a list of properties over the winter, and supply their own vehicles and additional labour.

The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

Snow removal isn't for everyone. We've highlighted the good, the bad, and the downright ugly so you can decide whether snow removal is the right fit for you.

The Good

  • exceptional pay for the hours worked. Some months our paid effective hourly rates of $100 / hour or more.
  • lots of downtime - work flexible hours at another job, or spend time on hobbies or relaxing.
  • manageable routes - we keep our routes small so our staff and our customers stay happy.
  • a great team and a great place to work - whether you just want winter work, or are looking for a year-round opportunity in the landscape industry.
  • we protect our staff with guaranteed twelve hour breaks after each pass through their route.
  • we have spare vehicles and equipment, so unlike some companies, the inevitable mid-storm breakdowns are easily resolved.
  • we work as a team - you'll be in regular contact with our snow manager, and have support all winter long.

The Bad

  • snow removal is a very physically demanding activity. You'll clear more than 30 properties every time it snows - heavy snowfalls can be very very heavy work.
  • you're on call all winter long. No exceptions. If it snows on Christmas eve, you're working. If it snows when you're supposed to be at a family get together, you're working - no exceptions.
  • we work when the snow tells us to - whether its 2am, after dinner, or anything in between.

The Downright Ugly

  • heavy snowstorms are rare, but very very hard work. We've had crews out working for sixteen to eighteen hours straight to complete their route on a heavy snowfall. It's hard work - no two ways about it.
